Photographic Symbol Classic Book Cover

Brief

This project was to create a use photography to create an image with an ordinary object. Secondly, to use the photograph to design a book cover where the image functions as a symbol to represent a classic book or play.

The process for this project was different from previous projects. No sketches and no book theme to aim for while experimenting. Just find ordinary objects and start taking pictures.

Just find ordinary objects and start taking pictures.

Step 1 | Choose a simple ordinary object that can function as a symbol.
Step 2 | Photograph the object and make it extraordinary through lighting, point of view, focus, cropping, color, and scale.
Step 3 | Repeat the process of photographing object using feedback from others in previous photoshoot.
Step 4 | Determine symbolic meaning: Choose your three most successful images and create titles. What symbolic meaning could be communicated?
What mood does the image communicate? Does this image remind you of any classic books or plays?
Step 5 | Place this image on a book cover with title and author.

Final

In the end I went with the photo that had great white space and made it easier to add text with out having to add
elements to make it readable.

It’s interesting looking back on this project because I would of probably chosen different objects in my home and planned photographing them differently if realizing the end result but in the end I am satisfied with my finished
product.
